Historical Background
Jamia Urdu Aligarh was established in the year 1939 in Agra by a group of enlightened people to develop the Urdu language and teachings in India. During the time of independence in 1947, as several associated members of Jamia Urdu Aligarh migrated to Pakistan, revered Syed Zahiruddin Alvi came to the forefront and decided to transfer Jamia Urdu to Aligarh. Jamia Urdu was shifted to the present building on January 8, 1960. Since its inception, Jamia Urdu has emerged as a prominent minority educational institution in our country. Jamia Urdu Aligarh officially got recognised by the Government of India in 1978 and since then has been approved by several reputed educational institutions and authorities such as the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, and National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language.

Jamia Urdu Aligarh is considered as one of the premier educational institution in our country that provide various courses at secondary, senior secondary, and higher education levels. The institution aims to universalize school education by providing inclusive, flexible, and high-quality learning courses which are are considered highly prestigious throughout the world and its degrees are given due recognition for higher studies and employment in several countries including United States of America, Mauritius, Singapore and Gulf countries. Moreover, across India, its degrees and certificates hold accreditation from over 70 esteemed universities and boards. Jamia Urdu has enhanced its courses by integrating various disciplines including Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Hygiene and Home Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Commerce, Mass Communication, History, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and more into its curriculum to remain aligned with contemporary needs and the trends of globalization in education.
