Jamia Urdu Aligarh is a minority educational institution located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Since its inception in 1939, the institution has established itself as one of the pioneer education institutions that are imparting education to the most deprived sections of the society that cannot afford costly education and is working towards empowering such people so that they can come into the mainstream of development.
Jamia Urdu Aligarh is considered the mother of distance education in our country, making education accessible for marginalized sections, including women and particularly, but not limited to, Urdu-speaking people through over 800 information centers around the world.
Background
After the revolution of 1857, the Muslim community in the country was in a state of turmoil, suffering from higher illiteracy rates and poor financial conditions. At this time, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan came forward with the establishment of MAO College in 1875 which later evolved into the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. After his demise, a group of enlightened Muslims continued his legacy by establishing Bazm-e-Iqbal in Agra with the vision of Urdu language and education. The question of Jamia Urdu relocation arose in 1947 when Tahir Mohammad planned to migrate to Pakistan. On this occasion, Syed Zahiruddin Alvi stepped in to transfer Jamia Urdu to Aligarh in 1948, The current building of Jamia Urdu Aligarh was inaugurated on January 08, 1960. Its establishment reverberated across the educational landscape with the various institutions including Madarsas and educational boards started offering coaching classes for Jamia Urdu Examinations.
Promotion of Urdu Language and Teachings
Urdu is not just the language of Muslims; it is the language of India as a whole, as Jamia Urdu Aligarh has demonstrated since it was established in 1939. Jamia Urdu is inherently supported by those with affection for the nation. Various state boards, universities, colleges, and other organizations have recognized Jamia Urdu Aligarh's courses and deemed them equivalent to those state boards' credentials. Jamia Urdu Aligarh courses, including Adeeb and Adeeb-e-Mahir, include the Urdu language as one of the mediums of instruction along with the English language. Jamia Urdu Aligarh is associated with the Board Of Madarsa Educational Society and is working towards spreading education to the marginalized sections of the society without any support or financial assistance from the government of India. Jamia Urdu Aligarh is not only giving education but also promoting the Urdu Language by encouraging Urdu poets, writers, and scholars. The institution is working hard and initiating various steps regularly to improve the quality of education.
